Polynucleotides
Polynucleotides: What They Are and Who They Suit

Polynucleotides are one of the newer skin treatments in UK clinics, and patients often ask what they actually are. Here is a straightforward guide from Dr Hana Aesthetics.
What Are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are a natural solution to ageing. They are fragments of DNA extracted from salmon, sterilised, highly purified and injected into the skin.
At Dr Hana Aesthetics we use Plenhyage XL polynucleotides, which have been used in Italy for 5 years.
How Do They Work?
They work at the cellular level to stimulate production of collagen and elastin as well as encourage repair of damage from the sun, acne, rosacea and reduce inflammation.
Who Do Polynucleotides Suit?
Patients often choose polynucleotides for fresher, plumper, brighter skin, skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles, and dark circles under the eye. They can also help skin affected by sun damage, acne or rosacea.
As they are derived from salmon, please tell Dr Hana about any allergies, including to fish, at your consultation. She will check your medical history before advising whether they are right for you.
When Will I See Results?
Results are seen from 3 weeks, with the best results 3 months following treatment.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
This depends on the problem being addressed, the age of the patient, lifestyle and general health. Most people benefit from two sessions. Severe scarring, acne, rosacea or sun damaged skin may benefit from more sessions. Your doctor will discuss your treatment plan during your consultation.
How Much Do Polynucleotides Cost?
Each syringe of Plenhyage XL is 2ml, and covers a medium-sized treatment site. A single session of treatment is £250, a course of two sessions is £450 and a course of three sessions is £600.
Questions
Are Polynucleotides the Same as Profhilo?
No. Both improve skin quality, but polynucleotides work at the cellular level to stimulate collagen and elastin and encourage repair, while Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid skin hydrating treatment.
Can Polynucleotides Be Used Under the Eyes?
Yes. Polynucleotides can help reduce dark circles under the eye. Please note we DO NOT offer filler treatment for tear trough (under the eye).
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Most people benefit from two sessions. Dr Hana will discuss your plan at your consultation.
