Smile Lines and Marionette Lines: How Dermal Fillers Can Help

Dr Hana Aesthetics4 min read

Smile lines run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth towards the chin. Both tend to deepen with age. Here is how dermal fillers may help.

Key Points

  • Smile lines are also called nasolabial folds.
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used to smooth lines and soften creases.
  • Smile lines: Juvederm Ultra / Restylane Classic (6-12m). Deep smile lines and marionette lines: Juvederm Volift / Restylane Lyft (12-18m).
  • From £130 for 0.5ml.

Why Do These Lines Form?

As we age the face gradually loses volume and the skin becomes less firm. The lines around the mouth often become deeper as a result. Genetics, sun exposure, smoking and weight loss can all play a part.

How Can Dermal Fillers Help?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours. Smile lines, deep frown lines, marionette lines and lip lines (smoker's lines) are among the areas Dr Hana treats.

Sometimes the best result comes from restoring support elsewhere, such as the cheeks, rather than filling the line itself. Dr Hana will examine you and explain her recommendation.

Which Products Are Used?

Smile Line: one syringe of 0.5ml £130, one syringe of 1 ml £250, two syringes of 1 ml £400. Deep Lines: one syringe of 1ml £275, two syringes of 1ml £450.
